Elevating IAM Solutions

Industry: Utilities | Service: Project and Program Management

AdvanceWorks spearheads a transformative Identity and Access Management solution for a global energy leader.

A multinational leader in the energy transition sector, catering to over 9 million clients worldwide, confronted operational errors within its Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution. Recognizing the imperative for a more scalable, secure and integrated IAM, AdvanceWorks undertakes a pivotal role in managing third-party teams to implement a mission-critical solution. This initiative not only addresses operational issues but also positions the client for benefits tied to efficient project management.

Despite the complexities of IAM implementation, the introduction of a Project Management Office (PMO) professional adds a layer of strategic oversight. The PMO facilitates seamless communication, fosters collaboration among cross-functional teams, and ensures efficient planning and execution. This strategic addition to the team brings distinct benefits to the project and its overall success.

Team Collaboration

A collaborative force of 15 professionals includes representatives from functional testing, development teams, and project leadership. The PMO, from AdvanceWorks, assumes a crucial role in facilitating communication between their team and 3rd party or internal cross-functional teams impacting the project, orchestrating effective communication and coordination, to ensure tasks outside the project team align with overarching goals.

Goals Achieved

The main goals for this project were:

Overhaul and centralize Identity Access Management to address the limitations of the old application.

Update and modernize permissions and access controls into a unified platform

Implement a cohesive solution to collect and manage user information globally for our client expansive user base.

Results

The initiative achieved transformative outcomes, securing the organization’s operations and elevating user experience. The updated IAM solution increases security, modernizes operations for improved efficiency, and fosters an improved user experience for over 40,000 global users. Furthermore, the solution ensures compliance with regulatory standards, safeguarding the organization against potential risks. This approach positions the company at the forefront of the energy industry, primed for sustained success and adaptability in a dynamic landscape.

Next Steps

Building on the achievements, the project’s next phase involves incorporating other countries that were not ready by the time of the solution release. This extension aims to ensure uniform reporting and data organization across all zones.
This ongoing project, not only exemplifies a commitment to IAM enhancement but also underscores the strategic value of a PMO in facilitating effective communication, coordination and overall project success.
